At the conference in May 2001, it was apparent that there are a group of parents and children who have need of support.  The group with teenagers was predominantly made up of parents whose children were on the roll for health or special needs.

We decided to form a support group.

TCSPSA want to know the needs of parents so we can look into getting support/information for them. We look forward to hearing from anyone who is interested, who has questions or issues so we can find out what is wanted/needed by the parent/supervisors.

We would also like people to know that if they have child with special needs or a health disability they can apply to WINZ for a Child Disability Allowance which is assessed by a GP or Psychologist/Specialist and is not means tested.

If you are eligible for this allowance then you will be able to be assessed for Respite Care time. You need to see your HFA or GP about this depending on where you live.
If you experience any difficulty TCSPSA will try and find out who does this in your area.

The WINZ staff can't tell you if you are eligible, the specialist report goes to a panel and they decide. So don't be put off by someone in an office who may not know all the details. All they have to do is provide you with the form and send it off for you once you have filled it in.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
